Drinking large amount of water especially after 8 pm will put additional stress on the kidneys and delay resting time of kidneys. Longtime consumption will harm the kidneys. 

Drinking soft drinks/flavoured fruit juice and ice water will also damage the kidneys.

Drinking large amount of water in one shot will also hurt kidneys.

The correct way is to drink a cup of water slowly in many sips.
