Scientists found that daylight can strengthen the infection-fighting power of neutrophils, the most common white blood cells in our body.
New research shows that neutrophils have internal circadian clocks—biological timers—that get activated by light during the day, boosting their ability to kill bacteria.
Using transparent zebrafish, whose genetics are similar to humans, researchers directly observed how daylight synchronizes these immune cells to work harder when the body is most active and likely to encounter infections.
